Designing Your Vision Board

Create Your Vision Board

Let’s get crafty

Remember when making a collage in school or as a hobby was cool? It still is.

Today, the woman with direction has a map. She knows what she wants and is ready to draw out the design for that path.

This map is called a vision board. It’s a self-actuating technique that allows you to see where you are going in a very literal way.

A vision board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate, and maintain focus on a specific life goal. Literally, a vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do, or have in your life.

Vision boards are great for providing some clarity and precision for your life goals. Choosing pictures of vacation destinations, houses, family photos, or otherwise creates a physical imprint of your goals on your brain in a way that writing them and affirming them transcends.

By creating a vision board you are clearly affirming to yourself and to others what is most important to you.

Reinforcing habits and mindsets

A vision board also reminds you of what habits you are practicing.

For example if you need to drink more water everyday to help your body be the high functioning machine you know it can be, make sure to have a glass of water or a bottle of water on your vision board!

Need a gentle reminder of your new grateful mindset? Write grateful and mindful sayings on your board!

  • I am beautiful, capable, and strong
  • Today is the best day ever!
  • I am grateful for….

Let’s get creative!

Now that you have completed your perfect day exercise and you have written out your path, it’s time to start drawing the map!

There are several ways to do this:

  • Grab some old magazines and scissors
  • Do a quick and un-perfect drawing
  • Make a vision board on a word program and save photos from google
  • Print photos from google and glue them to a board or tack them to a cork board.

Your vision board is all about your path forward! If you’d like you can start with a picture of you in the middle. Then start putting your goals all around you. There is no correct way to do this, and everyone’s visual stimulations will be different.

Are you planning to buy a house? Find a picture of your dream home (or anyhome). Put it on your vision board!

Are you planning to start generating your own hands-free income? Choose a picture that identifies the core of your idea and put it on your vision board!

Are you trying to be more mindful? Find a picture that represents your spirituality and put it on your vision board.

Continue on until your vision board is 80% filled with pictures that are important to you.

Affirmations and Intentions

As important as the visual aspect of the vision board is, the affirmations are paramount!

Choose phrases that are important to your new path forward. Write them on your vision board.

  • I am working towards owning a house!
  • I am working towards building my own business!
  • I am working towards being a leaner and physically fit version of myself!
  • I am learning to prepare better food for my body!
  • I am practicing saving for my future!
  • I will play more often and give my mind time to rest!
  • I am grateful for my beautiful surroundings!
  • I am mindful of the emotions of others and will take a moment to consider their position before I consider my position.

Most importantly, remember this is not about it being perfect. The vision board shouldn’t look pretty! It should look crafty and raw.
